On 6/9, Institute of Fisheries and Economics planning (Directorate of Fisheries) and the World Fish Center organized a technical workshop on methods and experience in climate change research assessment in fisheries in Hanoi.
In recent years, Vietnam fisheries sector has made great progress, the total fish production in 2012 reached 5.8 million tons, of which the capture production reached 2.6 million tons, the aquaculture production reached 3,2 million tons. However, in recent years, Vietnam's fisheries sector is strongly influenced by climate change (CC), especially at fishing, aquaculture production in the intertidal zone, estuaries coastal and marine farming areas. The workshop aims to exchange experiences and systematize the research methods assessed the impact of climate change on Vietnam's seafood industry, construction oriented research related to climate change in the future. In addition, another purpose of the workshop is to contribute to future research directions related to climate change in fisheries sector, increase research analysis and forecast climate change in administration and planning sector-specific policies.
Participating in the workshop, a project team including Ms. Le Minh Hanh, PhD student, Dr. Do Minh Phuong and Prof. Le Xuan Canh prepared a presentation on "Aquaculture mapping method using GIS in northern Vietnam. "
