First fieldtrip to Hai Phong (09/05/2012)

In March, ICA project has also organized the first fieldtrip to Hai Phong, one of the three target provinces.The fieldtrip participants involved Dr. Phan Thi Van, National Project Director; Mr. Nguyen Huu Nghia, Research Coordinator and GIS and Fisheries resource specialist; Mr. Mai Van Tai, researcher partners, Director of Center for Environment and Disease Monitoring in Aquaculture (CEDMA), Environment and Livelihood stage; Dr. Dang Thi Lua, researcher partner, Vice-Director of CEDMA, and other Project staffs. The main objectives of this fieldtrip were to identify contact person who will involve project activities at each of the three provinces; to identify source of data; to choose agriculture species and areas doing research and to choose MSc candidates.

In Hai Phong, the fieldtrip team has been greeting by representatives of local authority, Mr. Dao Viet Thuan, Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ms.Vo Thi Hong Phuong- Head of Agriculture Section, Mr. Ngo Xuan Ba- Researcher, Mr. Ngo Van Tan- Researcher. Dr. Phan Thi Van, on behalf of fieldtrip team, had a short presentation of project information and the objectives of this fieldtrip.

Mr. Dao Viet Thuan, in turn, has appreciated the project for selecting Hai Phong as one of target provinces. With the diversity of species and wide range of aquaculture method, he said, Hai Phong has advantages to become one of the greatest fishery exporters in Vietnam. However, since recent years Hai Phong has undergone a lot of impacts of climate change, the need for a sustainable and adaptable development of local aquaculture is significantly increasing.

The local authorities have promoted Ms. Vo Thi Hong Phuong, Head of Aquaculture to be the contact person between ICA project and local. As an experienced researcher, hopefully Ms. Phuong would have great time working with project staffs. Marine fish will be studied and the MSc. Candidate will be Mr. Ngo Xuan Ba with the plan program to be MSc of Aquaculture. Other information will be discussed with Ms. Phuong later.
The fieldtrip to Hai Phong has been organized well, achieving the outcome as planned.
