ICA’s first fieldtrip to Nghe An (10/05/2012)


The final destination in the first fieldtrip in March to the target provinces of the ICA project is Nghe An. Being greeted by the local authority, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghẹ An, the fieldtrip has been successful.

The project team has been greeted by Mr. Tran Huu Tien- Deputy Head of Nghe An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Tran Xuan Hoc- Head of Agriculture Section, Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang- Researcher of Agriculture Section, Mr. Nguyen Cong Thin- Researcher of Agriculture Section.

The fieldtrip members were Dr. Phan Thi Van, National Project Director; Mr. Nguyen Huu Nghia, Research Coordinator and GIS and Fisheries resource specialist; Mr. Mai Van Tai, researcher partners, Director of Center for Environment and Disease Monitoring in Aquaculture (CEDMA), Environment and Livelihood stage; Dr. Dang Thi Lua, researcher partner, Vice-Director of CEDMA, and other Project staffs. The main objectives of this fieldtrip were to identify contact person who will involve project activities at each of the three provinces; to identify source of data; to choose agriculture species and areas doing research and to choose MSc candidates.

 

 



To open the meeting between the fieldtrip team and the represenetatives of local authority, Dr. Phan Thi Van, on behalf of fieldtrip team, had a short presentation of project information and the objectives of this fieldtrip. Mr. Tran Huu Tien, in turn, has appreciated the project for choosing Nghe An to be one of target provinces. Being deeply affected by the changes in climate recent years, he said, the need for a sustainable and adaptable development of local aquaculture is remarkably growing. Therefore, he has held high expectations for the outcome of the project.

The local authority has announced Mr. Tran Xuan Hoc, Head of Aquaculture to be the contact person between ICA project and local. As an experienced researcher, hopefully Mr. Hoc would have great time working with project staffs.

As two of the most popular culture species in Nghe An, yellow clam, mostly in Quynh Luu, and white leg shrimp in Nghi Thiet were chosen to be studied. The MSc. Candidate was selected to be Mr. Truong Van Toan with the program to be MSc of Aquaculture. Other information will be discussed with Mr. Hoc later.

The fieldtrip to Nghe An has been organized well, achieving the outcome as planned.
